Back and Neck Pain

Back and neck pain is a major problem in our stressful world and patients come complaining of pain and associated loss of function.

Musculo skeletal problems can be caused by poor biomechanics, muscle imbalance, repetitive strains or trauma.

Physiotherapists are skilled at assessing joint and soft tissue injuries. Treatment may include manipulation, mobilisation, soft tissue work and electrotherapy. This can help by treating pain and restoring joint range. Advice on specific exercises is aimed at improving muscle strength, joint mobility, core stability and posture.

Patients may be referred on to continue their rehabilitation in our regular pilates classes.

Sports Injuries

Sports injuries require prompt treatment, as an acute injury may become chronic, which will be more difficult to treat.

Soft tissue injuries may be caused by overuse, poor technique or trauma. Treatment may include ice, heat or electrotherapy to reduce inflammation and pain.

At an appropriate time specific exercises are given to correct the underlying cause of the injury and regain muscle strength with flexibility. Gait analysis may be part of the investigation.

If orthotics is needed to correct poor biomechanics when walking and running, these can be fitted in the clinic.

Repetitive Strain Injuries

Repetitive strain injuries both in the work place and sports field can be caused by overuse, poor technique and poor posture! Physios are able to assess workstations and advise on good working habits.

Checking biomechanics and good movement patterns can help athletes prevent their injuries re-occuring and help their speedy return to sports or work.

Post Surgical Rehabilitation

Post-surgical rehabilitation is an important aspect of our work.

We closely liaise with a team of orthopaedic consultants, who specialise in ligament repair and artificial joint replacement. Rehabilitation will include specific ways to regain joint mobility and strong muscles to maximise function and return to activity. Gait and balance re-education is also an important part of treatment.

Women's Health

Women's health is important to us. We see women who are recovering from gynaecological surgery to help them regain full fitness and function.

We advise on anti-natal and post-natal women on posture and strengthening essential muscles.

Pregnancy, childbirth obesity and persistent coughing can all lead to stretching and dysfunction of the pelvic floor muscles, this may cause incontinence and sexual activity problems. Specific exercises can help re-train these muscles.

We will help you back into shape safely.

We advise on pain management which will help people carry on their daily activities, hobbies and sports despite advancing age or debilitating conditions.

We aim to improve function and quality of life for older people.
